Repeat Prescriptions

Important: Changes to ordering Prescriptions

From October 1st Hatfield Health Centre will take prescriptions orders in the following ways:

  • Using the NHS App.  Register for the NHS app here.
  • Written – paper requests preferably using the prescription counterfoil put in the prescription letter box, in or outside of the surgery

We will stop taking repeat prescriptions over the ‘phone.

Why do we think it will be better for patients?

It is usually safer and more accurate to have a written record of the prescription request than someone writing down what has been said to them, given the complex names of some medications.

We now live in a world online services are widely used for shopping, banking, travel, entertainment and other services. We do realise that there will be some patients who don’t have access to the technology required for on-line services and if that is the case, please speak to our receptionists.

Repeat Prescription Requests

We are now sending prescriptions electronically to the chemist.

If you have not nominated a chemist already, you must do so now by either informing us or your chemist. Please allow 3 working days.

Acute Prescription Requests

Any requests for acute prescription (medication which is not on repeat) must be used by completing the following form.

Please allow 5 working days for acute prescriptions to be processed.

Acute Prescription request (DOCX, 15KB)

Please order your prescriptions online, email to donccg.hatfield-practice@nhs.net or leave in the locked post box at the front of the building near the entrance.

Please note that from the 1st of April 2022 you will be able to request prescriptions using our 'contact us online' form.

Please go to the home patient to read further details.

Prescriptions can be requested by placing the repeat request slips in the box at the reception or online using SystmOnline.

Prescriptions are available for collection from 10.30am onwards. Please note that we are not a dispensing practice.

Online Appointments and Prescription Ordering

We are very pleased to be able to announce a new service for patients enabling you to book appointments online and to re-order repeat prescriptions. The service will be available 24/7 and we hope that patients who find it difficult to phone us during working hours will find the new service to be particularly useful.

The repeat prescription ordering service is available now, and the online appointment booking service will be available from 31st March.

Patients who want to use this service will need to complete a short form which is available from our reception desk.

Return your unwanted medicines

South Yorkshire residents are being encouraged to return any unwanted medicines to a pharmacy.

People are also encouraged to only order the medicines they need, check their medicines bag before they leave their pharmacy and to tell their GP if they no longer want/need a medication.

These messages aim to reduce harm caused to the environment from medicines pollution as well as potential harm to pets and people at home, and to prevent medicines over-ordering and stockpiling.

If unwanted and unneeded medicines are returned whilst still in the pharmacy those medicines can be safely re-used.

Dr David Crichton, Chief Medical Officer, NHS South Yorkshire said:

“Returning unwanted medicines to a local pharmacy is a simple and effective action that can help to protect nature and ourselves.

“When medications get flushed down a toilet or put in bins they can get into our soil and waterways and cause harmful pollution.

“If you have unwanted medication you can return it to a pharmacy for safe disposal.

“This includes any products with medication in them, such as creams, liquids, medicine bottles, used patches and inhalers.”

“We would ask that patients only order the medications that they need.”

Inhalers in particular, are incredibly important to dispose of correctly as they can leak greenhouse gasses long after the medication has been used.

NHS South Yorkshire urges all residents to check their medicines supply before ordering more, and to check their medicines bags before leaving the pharmacy to help protect supply chains and our environment.
